Default loading the cat.

I recently had the resonator taken off my car (which sounds great now) and now i get a sputter when idling almost like a misfire. I was told that it could be the cat. being loaded with extra gas and igniting, is this true?

It might be, I was getting a sputter like that when I floored it for a bit, and then I hard some crap come rattling out of my exhaust and now it spits flames when I shift while hammering on it. But for some reason it only does it when I use gas with the 10% ethanol, if I fill up in Wisconsin and get pure gas it never has an issue.

Gonna do a test pipe anyway, screw the cat, how bad can a 1.8litre possible be w/o a cat compared to a gas guzzling pos gm V8 with one.

It only seems to happen when idleing from what i noticed. I am thinking about the test pipe also cause i dont see how they can do the sniffer test on my car since the dyno in my area only has a single roller.

Its because you took the resonator out. The resonator resonates/muffles the natural sputter/backfiring that the engine makes. Everyone that takes their resonator out complains of the same thing.

It's not something that worries me more or less an issue i wanted to conferm. I never had a dip in rpm like it when i had the resonator on.

Well you lost some back pressure by taking it out so that would alsoexplain your issues.

I see, would putting a test pipe on be a bad idea then?

I have 2.75" piping on this car.

I dont see how a test pipe would help if thats what youre asking... It will reduce your back pressure even more. It will help exhaust gases escape faster which will help your turbo spool up faster so it would help there, but its not going to cure your sputtering.

The sputtering dont really bother me since the car is running fine and no cell's.I was just wondering if taking away that much more back presure will cause problems with the engine in performance.
