RE: lookin for the answer
Holy christ..
Ok. Your "ESP" light should NOT be on when the car is started. If you look onto your dash it should not be there...
Now, if you turn it 'OFF' (meaning you are turning traction assistance, or whatever it is off), then press the "ESP" button, and the light should go on. Permanetly. (Until button is pressed again, to reverse the act)
Now if its coming on occasionnally, thats probably normal. If you lose traction the light will blink/come on, and cut power to the engine to help you correct the error you've made. Its there to stop further sliding or traction issues.
If you wanted to do a "Donut" you wouldn't be able to do it unless you press the "ESP" button because thats the only way to turn it off, otherwise your car will see traction is being lost and cut gas to your engine.
Did that clear anything up? At all?
So basically: ( Button not pressed) No Constant ESP light = Traction control on (Or whatever it is)
(Button pressed) ESP Light always on = No traction assistance... You are free to slide, and do whatever.
