looking at a 96 A4 1.8t ???
Hello, im new to this site and have a few questions.
I can buy a 1996 A4 1.8t off my friends dads buddy for $2,000
the car has 218k and the turbo dosent work. the car has been driven from cleveland to new york and that is where all the miles came from.
rides like its on glass, and handles like a slot car. verry tight.
im new to turbos and was wondering since the turbo dosent work i might as well upgrade to a bigger turbo w/ bov .. ect...
can a car w/ that many miles handle a bigger turbo? what else will i need to replace on the engine to work the bigger turbo?
are there any suggestions as to what turbo to get ?
any and all info would be verry helpful.

i wasnt aware a turbo car was available in 96. and i would say that the car might exceed its limits in terms of everything. try to get him down to 500 or so. IMO the car has no value. if you cant get it for 1000 or less, than dont do it.
like i said in my first post, i dont think the car is worth much money if any. offer him 500 cash and see how he reacts. he is obviously trying to get rid of the car, and i think you would be making a huge mistake paying 2g for it. i am surprised the car still runs.
pass on it. 218k is a *bit* too much. go with a like a 98 with around 100k or so. there not that expensive and if the previous owner took care of it, it will run strong. o and for future reference audi's and BOV's do not mix. we use what's called a DV (diverter valve). the a4's use a close loop system and putting a BOV on it will make your care run rich due to the location of the MAF and f*ck it up. a DV recirculated the air back in instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. you can put a BOV on if you use a piggyback system and tune the car but its really not worth it.
