Looking at a 97 Audi 1.8T HELP!!
Hey guys, im young and getting ready to go off to school here soon. Got in WAY over my head with my current car. Bought a 1990 240sx just as a car to drive, ended up swapping and stripping it, car is loosely seamwelded, has no heat, no powersteering, no defrost, no AC, NO emissions equipment, windows don't even rool down anymore, coilovers, widebody, LSD, big brakes yikes. So here the deal I live in Ohio(snowy in winter gets pretty ******* cold) This is my only car. A 12 second RWD sports car..hmmm its not too reliable, well it is but when it does brake I have to track down each and every part from a used seller in Japan and they usually take advantage of the situation and charge me an OUTRAGEOUS amount for it. Thats what I get for having motor that was never sold in the states. I guess what im getting at here is I want a more daily driver type car. That has 4 seats, defrost, working windows, powersteering, and gets better gasmileage then my 10 to the gallon. So im selling my car for 5500 soon. And was looking at an Audi on a local board. Its a 1997 FWD auto A4 1.8T. has 106k ColdWeather and Sport package. He says the car needs ball joints and thats it. He wants 4k for it, heres the thread for those who care enough to wanna see it http://www.cincinnatistreetracing.co...howtopic=21215 So my plan right now that I want to do is buy that and a small street bike. Do you think the car is a good deal? And will it give me tons of problems? I've heard that these cars are wiring NIGHTMARES and always seem to have some wiring problem that is really hard and really expensive to fix. Regular maintence isn't a problem though, I know my stuff I swapped an SR into my 240 and did all the work to that BUT I didn't wire it. Can anyone tell me what these wiring problems are that I might run into? I've had bad luck with VW's lately. I was going to buy a Corrado G60 awhile back and I went to VWvortex and everyone told me that I shouldn't get it because the superchargers are junk are something and that I should look for a VR6 one. Anyways, someone please tell me if this is a good car. I know some of you may be biased but help a kid out.

i think he did but since it is a auto that means u can only upgrade to a k04 turbo which isnt much if u want some power. also when i test drove a auto with that many miles the tranny was slipping. also the ball joints are prob gonna be around 400 bux uninstalled bc u might as well do them all bc a single one cost about as much as a set. id look esle where. they arent that hard to find for cheap specially in that year with that mileage

Any European car has got its wiring problems, but thats usually because they have more of it in their vehicle. The only problem you might have with an Audi really is if you wanted to install something Euro on your car. I met someone who had to translate the German wiring diagram for a VW MKIII Jetta to install a completely working climate control system (the MKIII Jettas didnt come with climate control in the States, but they did in Europe). As far as I know, hes the only person in the country with that now
And about the G60...whoever told you they are crap is just lacking common sense, lol. They arent crap, having driven both cars, though the VR6 is definatly quicker on the stock end. But since this is going to be a daily driver....does that matter so much? You still get a car that looks good and has a retractable spoiler (if they got the option) a la Porsche
