Looking to get an A4, can I afford it?
Alright guys so heres the situation. I've always been a HUGE fan of A4s and am really considering getting a used one for my first car. I know I'm going to get responses saying that its not smart to get a high end car for a first car but I have been driving for well over a year and really don't plan on doing anything too stupid with it. I still have at least 1.5 months but where it stands I have approx 18 grand to spend on the car itself plus another 4-6 grand on insurance (I'm a 19 year old male in NY).
So the question is, can I afford it? It seems for the price range I could probably get an 00-03 with 30-50k miles on it. I am putting some away for a system, repairs, and of course gas but I don't intend on adding alot of **** to it to race. Will maintence costs bury me? Is it at all possible? And if not approx how much more money would I need for say an 02 with around 40k miles on it and how much would it cost to maintain it per year?

What do you need 4-6 grand for insurance for?? I have two cars and i pay $170 for both, full coverage??? I would hope that you wouldnt do anything stupid with an audi?! Tell us your salary and we'll tell you if you can afford it.. Sounds like you will be getting one with a warranty, or at least be able to purchase a warranty if you wanted.. I wouldnt think that an audi with 30-50k miles is going to give you many problems at all, generally... The cost per year would be gas, and regular maintnance, and always have at least a few hundred or more saved for emergency-that goes for any car i think... Just take 2 or 3 weeks of searching and you will know what/where the best deal is for the money.
Oh believe me Ive been searching for prices of all different kinds of cars for a month. I plan on spending that much on insurance because of my age and the fact that everything in NY costs a SHITLOAD of money.
My salary can fluctuate alot because of the type of job I have, I will probably put away another grand in like 6 weeks or if I needed too I could just dip into my savings a little more if I needed more. How much would you say annual "regular maintence" costs?
P.S. I am only looking to get a base model with a manual transmission as I really don't intend on racing it as much. I just want a decent car with a hint of a sporty/luxury feel to it.
Hopefully I can get a less expensive insurance plan which will save me some cash.

18 grand will get you a good Audi. I got mine (1999 A4 with 80,000 miles) for 8500, for twice that I'm thinking you could find a really good deal. And I've put 10,000 miles on mine so far and all I've needed to do was put in gas and oil.
Set aside 500 for a chip though... lol.

As far as I know, not really. The only difference is you're pulling some extra weight around with the setup thats driving all the tires except two. You'd barely even see the difference.

I'm a 18 male and by them I have to pay 1000 bucks a half year, by geico I have to pay 5000 bucks a half a year for minimum.
I have a mechanic here in Brooklyn that is fair, and becouse he is from russia he takes money on the bases of how dificult repairs are and he takes me minimum.
In repairs it cost me 35 buks in oil and 10 buks per oil filter and 15 buks to replace. per 5000 miles.
It depends on where you live if like suburbs then manual is okey but in city it would be hard. but you will get used to it. I wana swap to manual.
it depends on how much you wana spend on the car determens the price for repairs. for example take 2002 car and 2000 car. for 2000 you will spend less however repairs might be more. on 2002 a bit more, however repairs would be less.
