Looking to join the ranks of Audi A4 owners, any advice on first buy?
IMO you should not buy B5 over $9K especially if you are not planing to mod it, you dont need modded problems to deal with. I know for a fact if you look hard and there is luck on your side you can find B6 for $10K +/- $1K, although my not be in Canada. The reason im so sure, because i bought mine for 10 and later i found at least 2 cars just like mine for same price range. Audi quattro is awesome handling, luxurious, nice looking, and gotsome punch. BUY AUDI!! non-turbo is more reliable (ref. audiforums.com) but turbo is much easier to play with

First time poster here, hope I'm getting the right forum for this type of question. As the topic title says, I'd like to become the owner of an Audi A4. It's a German car, well engineered IMO... nice size, not too big but enough space to sit comfortably. Decent power to boot and some luxury as well.
Any advice on my first Audi purchase? Specific problems that were known with this model, if any? Any major maintenance that I should look (out) for when purchasing this car, etc? Would prefer to go for a 1.8T, Quattro not important but OK if it's available. Auto transmission (TipTronic) only. I'd like an '01 or '02 B6 model if I can, looking to spend no more than $13-15k on the car. Is that reasonable to expect? I've seen more than a few selling in this price range, though it seems to be the low end of the price range on these cars.
Most cars I've owned and maintained were Japanese, save for two American cars. I never had a problem with parts/prices. Is it safe to assume parts for the A4 in USA/Canada are reasonably priced in comparison? I don't mind to spend a little more, but I also don't expect to be doing too many repairs to the car from the get go (which is why I'm asking, is there any common problems to look out for, but either way I'll likely get it inspected at a garage before I buy) ... at least not off the bat. Regular maintenance is of course expected with any used car.
Thanks for input, suggestions, and/or advice.
edit: any benefit in the B6 over the older B5 model?

now over 100K no problems(changed TB)
Yea, it does seem prices in US are a tad cheaper than here... but once all taxes are factored in, it would be cheaper for me to buy locally.
Buying a new car here is daylight robbery. Not to get off topic, but just a quick comparison ... for a budget car, look at the Honda Fit Sport. $24k locally, and if I'm not mistaken it goes for just under $16k in the USA. Huge difference on the prices, taxes play a big part in that... but you'd still save at least $5k bringing it from USA to Canada. Anyways, enough on that.
Sorry for those huge links in the last post, made reading this thread a bit inconvenient with the scrolling.
These are the four cars I'm looking at tomorrow. The first one is a bit over my price range but it's low mileage and it's got a total 8 year warranty (though it says engine warranty, not the same as a comprehensive I guess... I'll confirm). In any case, not like any price is set in stone.

I probably won't be modding, at least not any time soon... for whatever reason, I got a significantly cheaper insurance quote on the 1.8T Quattro vs non Quattro. Another reason to get AWD. Probably drinks a bit more gas but that's moot.
Thanks for reinforcing that idea on the service history, Muntzer. I'm trying to stick to lower mileage cars, hopefully there will be less issues if any.

BOPOH, I like the third one too. i'll check them out and make a decision hopefully on one of them, I'll need something by the end of the week. Bringing a car from USA would put me back at least $3k in taxes (on a $15k ride) so I'm staying local for the most part.
