Default loss of power , or is it?

hello everyone...

first time post,
just wanted to say hello to everyone, and im a proud owner of a new used 98 audi a4.
even tho i used to own a widebody 98 passat , complete dahlback turbo system and had lots of fun with the car, i sold it because i had to catch of to some CC bills right before marriage.

Well, im back into the game of modding and im hoping i can learn, grow and build a wonderful audi like everyone else on this forum.

so far its a 98 AEB engine code (which i love) 100k on the clock and im the second owner.
i have performed a timing belt, waterpump and all other major services.. and wow , what a difference the car feels afterwards.
According to the previous owner (i have a reciept to prove it) there was a upgrade to the ECU. He has upgraded to MTM stage one software (187hp)
But my main concern is that the car only feels like its making some power as it gets to 4K or above. Why is that... can that be drivetrain loss. Dont get me wrong, the car does pull but not as much as my once stock passat with giac chip in it.

if i nail it in forth, it will only really accelerate over 4K ... i'm hoping this is normal. can someone chime in..

A gt2871 will be going in very shortly with supporting mods... cant wait. !!!!

thanks everyone...

JOHN

Hey John,

Sorry to hear about the whole marrige mishap, there is a paper you should sign that says that you wont lose everything in the divorce

Back to the subject sounds like turbo lag for the most part but then again you have stock turbo's so I dont know how that is possible. Could be a boost leak or something going wrong with the turbo. Dont think it would have to do with anything in the drivetrain.

If you are going to go with a T3 flanged top mount go to Full-Race if you want the best on the market to help complete your Custom Turbo Kit!

Pricy but then again you get what you pay for. Talk to Lloyd and tell him that Adam@mvp sent you and im sure that he will work you a deal!!

Hope everything goes well with your future mods.

Adam~

appreciate it adam...

you think its turbo lag.... i was thinking of the same thing.. but its such a small turbo that i would assume that i would create boost/power on low end... its very weird. I'm trying to remember when i had my 98 passat with a giac chip.. that bastard would pull very nice. but this one on a roll and in fourth or even in a third.. lets say around 2500 or 3000 it wont get that kick of boost. only after 4k will you actually feel a bit of torque.

its very weird.. i dont think its a boost leak.. since i tear this thing down when i did the timing belt service... hopefully this weekend i will be performing a compression test and a quick leak down test.. to make sure.

thanks again.

Getting a boost gauge would do some good! There is the APR Tuned or AWE Tuning gauge that goes in the Vent or A-piller

Goodluck with finding the problems!
