Default Lowering B6 A4s

I was thinking about lowering my car in the near future. Springs and struts, but not sure what kind yet. I'm leaning towards H&R springs but not too sure about struts.
But the real question is this:
Someone told me that lowered A4s (even when done properly, alignment and all) eat through ball joints. Is this a known fact? or is it just bs?

Thanks

Good question. Thats like the first mod I wanna do on mine. Never heard of ball joint problems though[>:]. Did you just hear that for springs and struts? Or coilovers as well? I wanna get coilovers someday.
