Lucked out on snapped timing belt!
A kid sold us his pristine condition 2000 2.8q for $1700 because the timing belt snapped and he did not want to deal with it. Just took the heads off and there are only 3 bent valves on one head with no other damage!
Sent the head to the machine shop just to make sure it is not cracked. Shop guy said it looked good! Basically cost us $400 in parts and tools. Very cool

He was told the range of possiblities of the extent of damageand he just did not want to deal with it. It is a 2.8 q manual.Looking forward to getting back together and taking it for a ride. Should be much faster than the 03 1.8 w/tip
Sounds like you made out pretty good then! Q,M, should be a nice ride, just drop a SC in there and you'll be golden! You got it so cheap, should have plenty left over for the SC.
I believe he went over to the darkside and purchased a Mazda3[:'(]
ORIGINAL: avant80@2.6
probably right but he should be asked
the 2.8 is reserved for the elite you know who have passed the era of the 1.8T and want luxury as opposed thrust
