maintenance ???'s
HAHAHA, well i just thought its funny that i don't even have my new car yet and im buying mods for it already. I'm due my sis's 99 audi a4 fwd with 53k miles by the end of this month. I gotta go pic it up in texas. Well i don't want to just mod the car and not keep up on maintenance. I know timming belts are an issue around how many miles it has. What else should i be be prepared for. I wana do suspension work too. So would lowering it any put anymore stress on the control arms. I can do most of the stuff by myself, if im by myself and don't have any distractions. Maybe a helping hand. I like figuring stuff out on my own for some reason.
Lowering will put some strain on the control arms if you go below 40mm from stock height - of course an alignment is necessary regardless.
The fuel filter and pump along with the water pump should be replaced with the timing belt job. Then it's all done and you won't have to worry about a thing!

Thanks alot for the info. What about plugs and wires. So if i went lower than an inch and a half how much would i have to worry about the control arms, or any of the joints? Im thinking about h&r's race springs with grooved bilsteins.
well you wont have to worry about plug wires if you have the 1.8T cuz there aint any it uses a coil pack directly over the plug
If you do the suspension you should have a friend and some very detailed instuctions and off course all the propper tools...I did mine solo wich is a 97 frontrak like yours the rears are no problem but the fronts are a bitch to do by yourself its hard to get it out I got pissed on one of them and just yaked the ****** like a madman and ripped my CV boot(oops)
All I had was a haynes manuel wich is very vauge at best

Where you will have additional issues is that the lower height will restrict the choices of tire/wheel combos because of potential rubbing.

I am buying an 1999 AUDI 2.8 QUATTRO.
I have checked all service records and also obtained a 2 year powertrain warranty. The car has 135 000 KMS. I have a couple of questions regarding maintenance as well. Although this thread helped I wanted some more info.
Should I change the Water pump, Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, Time belt / Chain?
How much would those changes cost CANADIAN in the TORONTO AREA? If do decided to change the above instruments, and if someone knows a good reliable cheap place to do those. Please reply to what else I should look for to maintain the car well and any other changes you might think I need.
Also I noticed that the audi 2.8 I am buying has a different steering wheel then the 1.8T. The 1.8T has some plus and minus signs for, what I am guessing, is the triptronic or cruise control options on the steering wheel. Although the 2.8 I am buying does not have that.
Could someone also tell me please where I can get clear and bright headlights and corner lights and the side lights. I would like them to be very clear and not have the dull frosted look on them.

I would do the water pump, timing belt and fuel filter. If the fuel pump is working fine, don't worry about it unless you start modifying things. As for the clear corners question, check the archives here, there are many posts and links to instructions. As for the headlights, I am running 100 watt bulbs in my 2000, and they are producing more than enough clear light. The stock bulbs are easy to outdrive on the highway. Welcome to the forum!

Not changing the fuel filter isn't going to hurt anything, but if your timing belt snaps or the water pump quits, that can be a costly repair. Better safe than sorry on the water pump and timing belt. The manaul recommenrds 90,000 miles for the timing belt, but most people do it around 60,000. I've actually done mine twice now, as I am approaching 120,000 miles. Also change the air filter and cabin filter and lube the sunroof if you have one. HTH
