Default major headlight problem.....

coming home from new york tonite.... i live in maine... i'm driving in vermont going about 65... and then all of a sudden headlights go out.... i manage to stop without hitting anything....

i had the fogs on and wipers etc... i think i had the high beams on at the time....

but anyways now i have no low beams and no fog lights, the fog light switches dont even light up...

and the only way i had high beams was to hold the switch like i was flashing teh high beams... so thats how i drove teh 100 miles home... not much of a choice

i did check all the related fuses and they are all fine......

any ideas/??

p.s. it was raining quite hard most of teh way

If you have a test light or a DVOM at home get to where you can see the wire connections at the switch and test to see if you have an output coming from the switch.

on mine the headlight switch and the c/c switch is on the same switch to test i think you can just drop the plastics on the steering column but to change it out i believe you would have to remve the steering wheel.

I'm not goint to bother to look up wiring diagrams, but do the simple things first.

1. Check the fuse.
2. Spray contact cleaner on the switch and rock it back and forth to see if the contacts are just dirty.
3. If that doesn't work it is likely either the switch or the relay.

David has the right idea. Get the cleaner at Radio Shack.
