Hi All,

I am new to this website and hope I can find some help. Back in June my car was damaged from a storm. Yeah I may be a grad student but my stupid moments get to me. I left the top down ina storm. The electrical box was replaced, CD player, and interior. I am having problems with my fog lights and parking lights. They do not come on when I turn the light switch over. Once in a while it works but a majority of the time it does not. Do you think this would be some more electrical damage from the storm or do you know of something else going on?

Also, my car has 67,000 miles on it. When I slow down it almost sounds like my car is ready to quit. Any ideas on what it could be?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

sorry to hear about your car. what year and engine do you have? What repairs/what went wrong after the storm?

 

Has nothing to do with the storm, the hazard switch is what needs to be replaced. Its the red triangle on the dash, its a common item that needs to be replaced. You have to pull out the radio with the special removal keys then pop out the switch.

 

Hey, thanks for responding so quickly. I have a 1.8T. I noticed the lights not working properly after the storm but figured it would be fixed when the electrical box was replaced. Now I am in a fight with the insurance company for other repairs and this being one of them.When I turn on the fog lights sometimes they come on and other times they do not. There have not been any messages that tell me the lights are out. That is the only info I can give for that issue. It is just frustrating.

I do not think the car feeling like it is going to die atstops has any thing to do with the storm. I was thinking fuel pump but wanted some other advice before I take it in for repairs. I have heard these cars are prone to timing belts and water pumps at my mileage and do not know what signs to look for.

 

A fog light problem is gonna be a headlight switch problem though, you can pull the switch out pretty easilly by pushing in the ****, turn it to the right a little, then pull it straight out of the dash. Check to see if the connector is on tight, if not you need a new headlight switch as well.

 

Wow, thanks. Would the hazard lights not work if the switch needs to be replaced? I just went outside and unlocked my car. When I pressed the unlock button the fog ligths automatically turned on and then after a while went off. Not sure if they are supposed to do that. I went in the car and turned the hazards on; they work. But when I went to turn the fog lights on, they did not come on. This is my first Audi and I am so lost when it comes to every thing this car can do.

With the car sounding like is going to die, I can actually feel some small vibrations. Any thoughts on this?

 

Does your turn signals still work fine when the engine is running? I would assume its either a headlight switch problem or both of your fog lamps are burnt out. Did anyone do any front end work to the car recently, they might have forgot to hook them back up?

 

Just throwing this out there but you know how to turn on the fog lights right?
When you turn on the headlights all the way over to the right you have to pull the switch outwards towards you to turn on the fogs. I pray to god you already know that but just curious.

 

No the fog lights work because when I press the unlock button they come on. Just tried the turn signal. They both work. I am going to go with your switch suggestion and see if I can get that replaced.
