making own clear corners
i thought I would ask the advice of others before I would attempt to do something that could be too costly in the future. I have instructions on how to make your own clear corners on the one piece headlight...but in involves drilling three holes and cutting up the orange. What I was wondering is if anyone has tried it and how it looks and also does it light up well engough that cops won't get irritated
cops always get irritated its there job...But Ive seen one A4 wit that mod and it looks very normal with amber bulbs and is leagal ie...look at a stock chevy malibu the turn signal lenses are clear and the bulbs are amber<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">
lots of people have done that mod - it comes out nice if you take your time - plug up the holes with clear silicone.
Actually it is only legal if the car has front reflectors elsewhere. Fed DOT regulation is that every car must have amber reflectors on the front of the vehicle - they don't have to be in the light housing but they have to be there. The Malibu actually does have em - on the inner part of the light separating the corner from the main headlight housing.
So you could actually be ticketed - most cops don't bother with that crap tho. But a vehicle inspector might refuse when you go get your car registered.<edited><editID>brrman</editID><editDate>38057.4066782407</editDate></edited>

this was the first mod I did on my car I also changed the amber turn siginal buld n 10475901 to a clear bulb n 10475903 I haven't been pulled over yet but I don't drive like an idiot eather trying to clear my driving record from my last car lol
I have done this mod on my car and two other cars (the last one was last Saturday).
It is a relatively easy mod...
1. Be extra careful (go slow!!) when you are drilling the tabs. Make sure you are only drilling the tabs and not the sides of the inner housing (hard to tell, but use your common sense). If you do too much drilling and the sides get shaved by the drill bit, you will have a black spot where the tab was located rather than a little spot from the missing tab.
2. Take your time as you slide the orange reflector out of it's slot - it is wedged between the lens and the silver coating behind it. If you aren't careful, you will scratch the silver coating and be very dissappointed with the result. As the reflector is flopping around in the housing (while you are trying to cut it into peices), be careful not to scratch the silver lining, too. FYI: The reflecting part of the housing throughout the headlight is a thin coating.
3. Get a good air hose to blow out the little shavings from the tabs; there is a lot of static electricity that makes them stubborn to blow out. One of those computer cans of compressed air isn't really strong enough.
4. GO SLOWLY!
5. See number 1 and number 4.

yeah - like I always say before I decide to mod something irreversible. "Can I afford to replace this if I muck it up?"

FYI: You risk far more damage by chipping your car. {Turbos and manifold seals/gaskets vs headlights.}

Guys, guys, it's not a big deal! You make it sound like you're going to be re-building the cumbustion engine! You aren't "cutting up (your) factory light". You aren't going to "...muck it up". It requires drilling tiny little holes that are later sealed up with clear silicone. That's the "damage" you'll cause to your light housings - nothing else.

Eh? Did you even see my earlier post in this thread? Keep in my that some people muck everything up, no matter how easy it is. So for someone to ask that question of themselves before they cut into a $500 set of headlights is quite acceptable.
