Default Manual Tranny Fluid?

ok, I have a few questions. First, I have noticed that my tranny is loud (in my opinion) when switching between gears. For example, if I'm sitting at idle with the windows down,I can hear it as I go into every gear and I was wondering if that was normal. Second, do I have to check the tranny fluid by taking out the fill plug? And last, what is the best tranny fluid to use in a 2002 5-speed??

Thanks Guys

Audi specs 75w90 GL4 fluid. Once the snow melts here though I'm putting in GM synchromesh semi-synthetic. A lot of VW guys swear by it in 75w90 spec'd transmissions. Audi says the fluid in the transmission is a lifetime fill uh, yeah... right...

I changed the gear oil in my cousins with 75w90 GL5 synthetic valvoline brand, his shifts felt smoother and quieter.

edit: check level using fill plug should be about 1/4 inch below plug.

GL5 is the wrong fluid. Unless it's multi grade GL4/5 it will eat up synchros

You have to admit that that is a retarded statement... no fluid is a "lifetime" fluid

All fluids are lifetime fluids. Of course the lifetime will be very short if you don't replace them.
