Default Many upgrade questions...new buyer

Hello. I just purchased a '99 Audi A4 quattro 1.8T with 92k miles on it and I am LOVING it. I was previously driving a '97 Acura Integra and was considering putting parts into it, but never had a stable income. I now have a new job and a new car and would love to start upgrading this one.

Something to keep in mind is that I have no mechanical experience with cars whatsoever, so you might need to dumb things down for me a bit. Anyway I was browsing around the forums and saw that many people say to upgrade the chip first. For this it seemed like the GIAC chip would do. I am looking to upgrade small things first as I don't have much money after purchasing this. I also heard of things such as blow-off valves, air filters, exhausts, new tires/rims, suspension upgrades. It seems overwhelming with all the things I can do with this car, but I don't know where to start. I was hoping you guys would be able to point me in the right direction. Any information you could give me would be great.

Thanks guys.

hey let me say welcome to the forum

for u a say a chip is the best thing u can do rite now
its the best bang for the buck mod, i would highly recommend it
IMO u shouldnt get a BOV u want a DV this will explain why
https://www.audiforums.com/m_14128/tm.htm

and u dont really need to upgrade ur air box or anything IMO
and if u lower ur car with springs rememeber u have to upgrade thr shocks also
and wheels and tires are ur own preference the bolt patter is 5x112
and an exhuast does give us significant gains

Thanks for the quick help. Just a couple more questions...if I were to purchase a DV, which would you recommend? I'd be looking for something in the $150-250 price range. Also, if I were to purchase new tires what would I need to do to upgrade to 16 or 17 inches? The last thing is when buying a chip do I have to bring it to a dealer or could I send it in? If I brought it to a dealer how long would it take to do (hours or days)?

Thanks again.

For a DV Forge or Bailey are your best bet both somewhere around $160 depending where you get could be a lot lower if you find the right place or buy used...... All you have to do it upgrade to bigger wheels is buy them with the proper sized tires and 5x112 bolt pattern..... Chip can be done at a tuner shop it took about an hour to have mine done i think you can send it in if you want but I think its best to just take your car in

its all preference with the DV, Forge and bailey seem to be the popular one
and what do u mean

if I were to purchase new tires what would I need to do to upgrade to 16 or 17 inches?
u only upgrade size when u upgrade the size of ur wheels

and the chip it can go both ways if ur close u can take ur car there but if ur far send the ECU in
i thinnk it takes about 2 business days or something if u sent it in

OK one more quick question before I go to bed...when upgrading my exhaust do I want to buy the whole cat-back exhaust (which will go for $700-900 i believe) or just purchase the muffler (which would run me around $200-250)? I'm assuming the cat-back exhaust would give more power?
