In the market for A4...
Pretty soon im going to be searching for an A4 96-01 , and i need to know what to look for besides condition and cosmetic stuff. Basically I want to know what engine size to get, the 1.8T or 2.8? What are the pros and cons of both, as ill be looking to add some mods under the hood? Also im assuming the one of the main reasons to get an Audi is the quattro, so im guessing thats a must.
So for what ever engine you reccomend could someone just list some of the more beneficial mods that can be done to increase power, handling, fun, whatever...
thanks for any response and looking at this noobish type post.......

If you want to mod at all you want the 1.8t the 2.8 is worthless for modding but its very reliable, not that the 1.8 isnt but the 2.8 is just more so..... any way you should look for a 99,5 1.8t quattro manual..... be sure the t belt has been done about 65 to 70 miles
About the 99.5... I know it has the same exterior as the 00 and 01, but does it have the same interior? (ie : stereo and computer reading in the center of the sped and tach.) or does it have the 96-99 interior.
if u plan on modding past a chip, than get the 1.8
the 30v 2.8's run a 15.4 stock, compared to a 16.4 stock on the 1.8
the 1.8 responds to mods a lot better simply because of the forced induction design.
you can chip the 2.8, put intake and exhaust on it, and maybe break into the 14's, which is fairly quick for a 2.8l luxury car.

The 99.5 is pretty much the same as the 00-01 except it is better because it's DBC while the 00-01 are both DBW. Try to get a 99.5 but if not an 00-01 are good. Deffinatly get a Quattro though. As for mods go, get a GIAC or APR chip for the 1.8T and it'll add 50 hp and 50 torque. Then if you want to get more into it you can get a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, exhaust, etc. Don't bother spending money on the intake though cause the stock one is very effective.
