Ive been lookin at a few audi a4's recently. Currently I have a 1995 mustang GT in Prestine shape which I bought out in california. I live in CT and at the time of buying it I was expecting to stay out in California. Anyway, I love this car but it is just too bad on gas and horrid in snow. As one would expect. I am looking at a 2001 audi a4 2.8 with 52,000 miles on it. My family friend owns the dealership and he will give it to me for 12,500.00 with a 3 month 3000 mile warrenty or something. it seems to be fine when I drove it and eberything looks good. Im a college kid and could get about 6500 for the stang and payments of about 160 a month for the rest. What should I do? Or should I go with a 2001 with like 87k for 9 or so. I was also looking at celicas. Dont be audi biased. I love audi and LOVED how this car drove. Any advice would be awesome! thanks,

Yea, sell the rustang, get the audi, your friend should give you a decent deal on a decent car, if he's really a friend.
The v6 should last you for another 200k if you take care of it. You cant mod this car for power, if you want more power, get a 1.8t and do some modding.

 

The V6 is reliable but is also terrible on gas. Have you considered a 1.8T?

I'd take 96 12V A4 over ANY celica any day.

 

I usually keep my cars stock. So I want the 2.8 for more reliability and power. Is 12,500 a good deal for a 2001 2.8 quattro a4 in like perfect condition? I want a car that will last me and one that I can still have fun driving. What about insurence rates? what other yr 2.8's do you reccommend that may be cheaper or is this too good of a deal to pass up.

I don't know the options but Kelly Blue Book says $16,000 for Quattro Automatic. Check their site and enter correct options. Probably won't be far off. Sounds like a good deal

 

Its about 15,500 on KBB with all the stuff. So 12,500 is a very good deal then 3000 off KBB. Just wish it was more affordable. Idea's? I was also looking at like 1997-1999 a4 2.8's with like 100k miles. How are those?

thats a 1996 not a 1997!!
1. only the 1996's in the A4 class have those wheels (same as mine)
2. 1997 A4 is a 1.8T
3. 1996 A4 is a 2.8L V6 12V

check the control arms, tie-rod ends, sway bar links for knocking or creaking since these are comman problems in the 96.
test the transmission out if its an auto.
and see if the recalls have been taken car of, the last recall for the 96was late last year for the ignition key switch, AGAIN.

not only the 96's have those wheels, my 2001 came with the same wheels my 1996 did (both 2.8's). The wheels that are on your car are audis 2.8 rims, they dont come on a 1.8...

in 1997 they had both the 12v 2.8 and introduced the 1.8t to america.

HARV405--- take it from me, a previous owner of a 1996 12v 2.8, and current owner of a 2001 30v 2.8, you want the 30v 2001. TRUST ME. The 2001 was the last year of the b5, it most likely has xenons, better leather, and the interior styling is WAY DIFFERENT and way more upgraded. The 2001 will be a way better car, and honestly at 12,500 your getting a smoking deal, i bought mine for 12,900 with 55k miles and I got a killer deal as well. The car retailed for 20k when i bought it and wholesale was 15-16k so 3-4k UNDER wholesale is almost unheard of.

GET THE 2001, dont let this opportunity pass you up. $160 per month for a 2001 audi w/ 52k miles is unheard of. Dont go after an older one that you will need to start replacing control arms and tie rods right away... do it right, trust me, the 2001 is a much much better car, i promise.
