Default Misfire problem w/no other codes. Take a guess as to what it could be.

I'll wait to see what people think could cause a misfire before I post the answer. Just put it this way, not very happy at all. Plus something did smell sweet.

Story is I had P0300 w/ P0302 & P0303. Random Cyl Misfire w/Cyl 2 & 3. Took it to the shop and they pulled no other codes. I already changes plugs and coil packs less that 4,000 miles ago.

Let me hear what you think it could be.

I am dying to know....

After the other posts and info, i was thinking you must still have a bad coil pack even after you replaced them all.

Is it something worse like a blown head gasket or thrown rod?

Blown head gasket. We have a winner.

They did some leakdown testing on it and it didn't pass. Also, I noticed a little bit of deposits on my plugs from what I now know is coolant. He thinks that they gasket is leaking between Cylinders 2 & 3, causing the misfire in both. They put compressed air into Cyl 2 and it came right out Cyl 3.

So, now I have an appointment to have the head gasket changed and timing belt done. Gonna cost in the range of $1500.

Can you think of anything else I should do while they have the head off? They are sending it to get machined to make sure it's not the head that has a imperfection in it too.

You want to have the head ported and polished while it is off?

I'm debating what I should do while the head is off. I plan on having all the items that come in the ECS Timing Belt kit done while they have it there. So TB, Water pump, tensioner, and belts. Some other seal that they said yesterday that I can't think of right now. I'll get a firm estimate today and they'll let me know what they're doing to it.

Do you think it'd make a difference if they did a P & P on it at the machine shop whhile they have it to mill it?

SWEET what did I win????/

5 quarts of Moile one 0w40 would be nice!!!!

Anyway, sounds like you are on track with the replacement parts. If its not too much, might as well p & p it. The gains are minimal, but it wont hurt anything and you can put it on your mod list!

Yeah, I'm gonna check on the P & P. Might as well see about it while the head is off.

And dafrazi, you're right. dankhound did guess that it might be the head gasket.

I got the old 0w40 Mobil 1 from my car if you want it. LOL.

I'll keep you guys updated.

So far the estimate is at $1617 and some change. That depends on what the machine shop says for milling.

So whatd i win.

You have to be carefull when milling the head. Milling the head can cause static compression ratios to rise to high. Normally this isnt an issue, but on a turbo engine a compression ratio increase can be disaster.
