I'd take a supercharged 2.8... because how many of us 1.8T's ever see 300 hp, let alone 400? The S/C takes you to 300, and most all of us would be happy as a clam with that power. Plus, its freakishly reliable... the same can NOT be said of a 400 hp 1.8T.

http://www.superchargedaudi.com/sc pretty cool reading up on the s/c esp hearing that stock tip trans doesnt necc need a level10 upgrade

lag superchargers dont really have lag
ross has lag but im sure very little of it though

are u talking about 300awhp or 300 crank hp for the 2.8 supercharged? cus it is not that difficult to get to 300 crank hp on a 1.8t

i'm pretty sure it's crank, on the pes site on their dyno sheets the numbers are way lower than what they claim.

most likely its to the crank

depends on the percentage of drivetrain loss, it's different from car to car. SCC dyno'd a chipped 1.8t golf at 180 to the wheels at a chipped claim of 197. then they've dyno'd stock evo's and sti's at about 230-240 at the wheels from a stock 276 and 300. AWD cars take a big hit on wheel HP.
