Mods and Airbags
I just bought a '98 A4, Lazer Red, sport suspension, 5 speed, 1.8T. First, I'd like to add a few horses, but since this is to by my daily driver, I don't want to go too radical. I'm thinking of a manual boost controller and diverter valve. Any suggestions on brands, brands to stay away from, etc. Also, do you recommend a boost guage at the same time...I'd hate to set the controller too high and blow my turbo up.
Second, I know this sounds odd, but I'd like to disconnect the airbag on the passenger side. My four year old son likes to sit up front with me. Has anyone ever found a defeat switch that can be installed or simply disconnected it? Any way to do this without turning on the airbag light?
Thanks!

Hey welcome to the forums. Why not just get chipped by a reputable tuner like APR or GIAC? In the newer A4's the airbag disables itself if a child is sitting up there. I've not seen a way to defeat it on the older ones though. Put your kid in the back seat where he belongs. Who cares what he likes, it's a safety thing.
I think my response may have come across differently than I meant it. I was not angry, I was chuckling as I wrote it.
Anyway, thanks for the info and pic. I noticed that your diagram is of a right hand drive. I haven't been able to find the switch in my glovebox. So, either this is a feature not found on North American models, or I'm just not looking hard enough or in the right place.
I'll order a manual.
Thanks again.

The tts have a switch in the glovebox but ive never heard of any a4s that had that switch. The only way to disable it is to unplug it but that would cause the cel to come on. You could always upgrade to a newer style that has the seat trigger that wont set of airbags unless there is a certain amount of weight in the front seat.
