my audi a4 gets the award for WORST fuel economy! im not proud...
Hi pps,
Ive got a 1996 audi a4 1.8 n/a. on a full tank ($60 optimax) I only get about 390 KM, whats the go people why is it so crappy??? is this normal, if so man its not worth it to have this car.!!!
also i noticed when i idle I get a strong smell from my exhaust like pure fuel smell, as if some fuel isnt being burnt... when i give the car, smoke comes out (but thats like on 5500 rpms which i think may be normal)
a mechanic said it might be dirty fuel injectors, what do you guys think?
any feedback is greatly appreciated???

running rich (too much fuel) can be cause by a bad O2 sensor, fouled plugs, leaking/dirty injectors...
390 Km/tank is not really all that good. I get about 300 Miles/tank = 482 Km/tank. I currently have a bad O2 sensor too.
Not sure how big a diff a 12v should be over a 20v tho

I easily get 440 miles per tank (all highway) average about 29.5 mpg (US gal) at average speed of 80 mph.
I'd put my money on a bad 02 sensor and probably a cold climate and city driving for poor mileage

according to some quick audiworld reserach, there was only 2.8 in 96 and 172 horsepower is what it was pushing, someone correct me if I'm wrong...
