my audi project
woops accidentally posted this in the a6 thread.
anyways i had said earlier that i have fixed the first thing on the audi. its a 99 1.8t.
the exhaust pipe seam was cracked all the way down and there is water coming out of the crack. im hoping its not a head gasket
but would anyone else know exactly what this could be. hopefully just condensation or something..

RE: my audi project
all the exhaust pipes have seams. like they start out as just flat sheet metal or something and they bend it into the shape of a cylindrical pipe. now the pipes seam can break if it comes under heavy load. like if you get into a wreck or something. this is why roll cages are very striclty inspected and have to be made with certain quality of pipe.
my exhaust was leaking out of the whole entire seam. so we welded it back up. its fine now. im thinking about taking that middle pipe out and replacing it with a new one. or maybe just a whole new cat back or something.
but the condensation is normal then. i just thought that it was kind of a lot of water to be coming out of there. ok i'll buy that.
have you guys ever heard of anyone elses exhaust doing that same thing.

The water is most probably exthaust.
When oil (Hydrocarbons, long threads Hydrogen-Carbon molecules) burn (mix with oxygen) you get CO2 and H2O.
To make certain, check the engine oil, if its gooey grey or brown, it's the gasket.
