I was teaching someone how to drive standard when while in first she slammed on the gas by "mistake" and the rpms went flying. now the the clutch, which used to ride high, rides very low and the engines, or something, flutters/starts very very roughly. The clutch is much harder to engage, and the car won't go into reverse at all. The car starts perfectly when in nuetral, but in first, the car starts violently.. also idles badly.

My guess is the transmission is destroyed? I'm hoping it's just the clutch, considering I would of had to replace it in maybe 20k miles anyway. I'm completely broke after having to bail someone out of a bad financial situation.. just to find myself in just as bad of a situation.

Any help would be awesome.

 

you definitely didn't harm the tranny at all. probly some part of the clutch assembly. i let my friend drive me home one night i was drunk and he toasted the clutch so bad it was smoking. But after that my clutch started slipping and the engagement got higher and higher. not lower[&:] and one night i thought my clutch went out cuz it wouldn't go into any gear and started stuttering going out of first and reverse. i let the car sit for a few days and the clutch worked again.

 

I don't plan on driving it until I figure this out. But my clutch won't engage either (I think I left that out.. sorry), I have to start it in first in order to be able to shift to any other gear, which is still hard to do. But if I start it in nuetral, it won't go into any gear either.

Hopefully it'll start working again, so I can get back and to class, sinse I commute to college and I could take the train to work..and save up for a new clutch in a few weeks or so. Until then I'm going to have to figure out a way to get to class.. luckily I'm doing great in all my classes so I can miss a class or two until I find a reliable ride. Thanks Brian.

 

yeah WTF with these cars, ive had the same issue where itll wrok perfect then their be a day when i just cant drive stick for one reason or something and itll feel like the clutch i gone, wake up teh next day and the clutch feels great. (knock on wood)

sounds like you glazed the clutch disc...aka, gets to hot after slipping it or not knowing how to drive it, and then it creates a glaze.....but thats just the engagement issue, idk wtf is up with your idle

 

does it get better when it cools down? that could explain why for some people their clutch is fine the next day. i hope it gets better, i don't want to miss class tomorrow. i'll try it again tommorow and let everyone know what happens.. but keep the comments coming if anyone has anything helpful.
