I had one (also the 1st CEL) on a 2001 1.8T Avant and it turned out to be a vacuum leak. The idle was erratic -RPMs would go up and then settle back down...
Turned out to be a hose that attached to a 3/8 or so fitting on the intake manifold (right hand side when looking from the fron at the engine bay).
This hose that I replaced, according to Audi parts guy, is notorious for developing cracks.

Thats not too terrible of a price, though it can be had for cheaper.. But on my other car -(96 maxima) the MAF costs roughly $330!!!

Yea i said it was the maf already earlier in the thread.

btw how many miles on your car when the MAF went out?

The MAF shouldnt cost you anything!!! its under warranty (part of emisiions) up to 80 or 88K miles. one of the two.

I replaced mine at the dealer. didnt cost me anything.

lol what?

i am serious. it will only cost you 50$ to replace it at the dealer. i forgot why they chargge that, but its like copay or some bullshit like that.

MAF is under warranty up until 80k miles or 88k one of the two. Mine went out last summer and gave a vacuum/boost leak/runing rich.

so it turned out to be the maf. go to the dealer!

For errors CEL codes look at the VAG-COM forum at VWVortex.com. They have damn near every code and combination of codes listed in there.
