Default is my clutch dying???

i was told there is one certain way to test if the clutch is good or about to fail
put it from neutral straight into 5th: if the motor dies, then the clutch is good
if it stays on....get $ for new clutch

mine moved about 1 foot and then died....was it supposed to die on the spot, or is the 1 foot move acceptable??

pls advise...i would hate to change the clutch 2 weeks after i bought the car
its only 45K miles...so the first driver must have been a $hitty driver in order to kill an audi clutch in 45 K miles

Any car could role a foot when fut in fifth, it depends on how fast you let the pedal out, sounds like its probably ok for a while longer though, now if your driving say in 5th and you step on it and the rpms start going way up but the speed does not that means the clutch is slipping and thats bad

phewwwww that definitely is not the case with the rpm

i would be surprised for a clutch to die at 45 K miles...but hey, who knows what jackass drove the car before me?

the way you said is a good way to test. You dont have to stall the car, but if it lunges your ok. There is no way to say a clutch will last 100 miles let alone 45k miles. If you have a brand new clutch and install it it can be killed within a few miles.
