My car is a 02 fwd a4 1.8t. I didn't put a heat sheild on because the turbo is just going to make the air hot when itblows it into the intakeany way so I didn't think it made a difference. The sound is ok its not real loud or quite ,but its noticable.

You need a filter on the secondary air inlet also.

Hey guys I did a DIY heat sheild last week for less than $30 at home depot. It seems to be working well, I've checked it a few times after long drives and the intake sideis nice and cold. Given it is around 40 degrees here, but I could feel a significant difference with my hand. Are you all interested in a write up?

Looks really good, but i agree that you need a heat shield. Good job though..You need to put that in the DIY forum.

A roll of aluminum - $10
fiberglass w/aluminum wrap (for Furnaces) - $10
Metal Tape - $5
bottom insulation for doors (weatherstrip) - $5

I'll take pics and do a write up sometime this week. It was really easy, basically I cut a peice of cardboard as template for the size and then cut the aluminum and fiberglass the same size. Taped fiberglass in place and then cut the weatherstrip the right size for the top to make a seal with the hood when it is closed. Again I'll do a more detailed set up later.
