Default My first A4

Hi everyone,
I just bought my first Audi A4 1.8 Avant Quattro Wagon. I was looking for a used, fuel efficient, nice riding car. Did some research on Audi's, Volvo's, etc and came across this one. As soon as I seen it was 5 spd, I had to have it. I bought it from a dealer. When I first looked at it and test drove it the "Check Engine Light was on. They said they would take care of it. They did.
After putting about 300 miles on it, the Check Engine LIght came on again, now it won't go off. Can anyone tell me if this is a constant recurrence. I'm sure if I bring it back, they will reset it and then it probably will come back on again.
Do i need to worry or should i just drive it.
Thanks for any advice.

Did you get the car from an Audi/Vw dealer?
if so take it back and tell them to diagnose the car (for free) and that you want a print out of codes they pull.
I had some problems with my a4 the day after i got it and when I took it back they tryed to BS me so I stood my ground an got a little loud with them. Long storey short I got all problems fixed.
Good luck.
O and call your new ride an Advant not a wagon.

Are you from the South???

Nah...I'm J/K. Unfortunately the CEL on these cars is something you kind of have to live with, pay tons of $$$ to get a dealership to diagnose or buy a VAG-COM. I just bought a VAG-COM b/c I'm tired of paying to have my airbag light reset ever 2 weeks. You should definitely be able to get this one done for free since you just got it (did you get it from the dealer?) but in the future they're gonna wanna charge. Good luck. If you're curious about a VAG-COM check THIS LINK but you can search the forum and read all about the different (and cheaper) ways to acquire it.

Hi Drkenan,

From the south.. ha.. no...
Havent you ever met a girl who loves to drive stick. Now would you buy a brand new Nissan 350z Roadster in automatic, NO... how about a 69 Camaro with a big block, NO... so there you see... I love my cars with a 4,5, or 6 speed. Anyway, just wanted to get that point across

Thank you for the advice. I bought the car at a used car dealer and hoping to get it straightened out today.

Don't you have advance auto parts in your area ? They check the CEL for free. They dont clear the code but at least you can know what it is.

Avant....not a wagon, not an Advant....Avant.

Avant...from the French for "forward" or "advance"
