My First Audi! WooHoo!!!
Hello Everybody!
I just got my first Audi. its a '96 A4 (sadly not Quattro) but i think i got a decent deal. I paid $6500 out the doorthats around $5700 for the car. Its got just under 80K miles and a 5sp. Its in decent condition, got a couple dings but nothing too big. One of the first things i wanna do to it is change the stereo. i cant deal with a cassette player for long. I was looking at Crutchfield and for every deck it basically said that modification was gonna be required, which i can see just looking at the stock deck. Has anyone else replaced this? Is it hard? Does it look Like crap with modifications? Also there is a slight ticking noise. what might that be?

CONGRATS!!! I've looked into sound in the past, and crutchfield (as high quality a distributor as they are) is WAY overpriced. Check out Lightning Audio for subwoofers and speakers, and check out your local best buy for decks. And with regards to your other questions about how hard it is - unfortunately, it is pretty difficult (in that a professional needs to install it). And unless you find a guy who cares about the look of your dash, you could change your classy dash into one with a random plastic piece just floating to cover up an empty space. Check out cardomain.com and look at what people have done and try and ask them any questions.

Hi, welcome to the world or Audi.
BUT, the first thing you want to do when you buy a new car, is make sure that it will keep running. No sense putting money into a new stereo, only to have the car break in a month.
Hopefully you have the service records, and the timing belt was changed. If not, at 80K miles, it would be a very good idea to have it changed. The engine is an interference engine, and if the belt snaps, or more commonly, the belt tensoiner fails, the engine is trashed. In addition, you may want to invest in changing all the fluids, tranny, differential,.

yeah i plan on getting a bunch of stuff replaced and taking the car in for a check up to see if there is anything that needs to be fixed. Timing belt will be one of the first. I also want to put synthetic oil into my car. my dad is an Amsoil dealer so i get some pretty good stuff. I'm gonna do an engine flush too. The stereo wont be for a while. thanks for the advice on the TT's stereo.

I'm gona change all oil to all syntetic and Mobil1.
the engine gona get 5w-30 or 5w-40. the tranny gona get the mobil1 syntetic oil, and 75w-90 for the diferencial. all I have to know is the amount.
also the filters, tranny and engine.

anyways, the dech does have a tendency to look bad when replaced. no cd changer???? if not check in the trunk there should be a chord for one located on the passenger side. if you find one i would reccomend getting one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Brand...spagenameZWDVW
