ok so i went to start my car turned the lights on and neither of them came on wtf??? my high beams work , parking lights and rears all work. just out of nowhere they stopped working wtf? i changed my oil earlier that day is there a wire i could have pulled out by accident while changing my oil? any suggestions on what is going on? i doubt blow my headlights blew out... maybe a fuse?

 

check fuses maybe a loose wire

 

I would check fuse first. I know on my 99.5 the power is all in one so it shouldnt be the connector. Maybe you didnt notice one light was out then the other went? Shot in the dark but hey.

 

Check to see if the high beams will work when you pull back on the stick. There is a good possibility that your multifunction switch went out.

Dah, I'm blind. When you flip the HEadlight switch all the way up, does it show up with the green headlight icon on your dash? Do your blinkers still work and does cruised control still work? Take a look at the tech article http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec114.shtml

 

this same thing happened to me...check to see if your brights are able to be held on...like push them forward and see if they will stay on, or check if you have to pull the switch towards you, and hold it for your brights to stay on....

its the switch itself, the audi dealership raped me with a $400 charge for a new switch. im sure u can get it done cheaper somewhere else, but that sounds like what it is.

 

hey guys, i checked the fuses today they're all fine, couldnt see any loose wires, the highbeams work in any position and turn signals work. im thinking its the actual switch i dont see how it could be anything else..

guarenteed its a loose wire, i had the same similar scare once.

the connectors on your headlights (on the acctual headlight unit)
might not be touching each other, i had to clean mine out and bend
the tabs so they would connect to each other.

but a simple way to do that is use a voltmeter first

 

That tech article I referenced is what I used to replace the switch. You may be able to simply clean the contacts on the switch with some contact cleaner.

That may solve the problem instead of buying a new switch.
