An f4 wouldn't give him the depth of field to put both the car and the house in focus. Ok maybe f15 was a little extreme, but with a tripod you have all the time in the world to expose the image. In that last pic he has mostly the house in perfect focus. I was trying to get him to focus on what was important...his car. Most digital point and shoots nowadays have an aperture priority (Av) setting where he can close down the shutter (higher f number) to get a better depth of field. Yes, it'll be a longer exposure time, that's why I mentioned that he needs to use a tripod. But seeing as that last pic had no blur, I'm pretty sure he was already using one (or he was on the ground with his arms as his tripod). Trust me.... I'm a semi professional photographer and I'm just trying to help him get better pics.

I as well am a semi-professional photographer thanks.
Point take, and yes f15 is way too extreme. I'd be still going f4. but f8 is a viable option. Test shots through the aperature settings should just be his solution . 2 photographers could bitch all day about what setting it SHOULD have been taken at.

You can shoot f4 all day, but he's not going to get the depth of field he needs to get both the house and the car in focus... In fact, if he's using a point and shoot he's probably already shooting around f4. You do make a good point though, to take test shots at different aperture settings to find out what best suits the shoot.

f15 is extreme only because some point and shoots don't go up that high. Otherwise f15 is perfectly acceptable.

all goes in style man. I personally think the F15 will get too deep of tones for this effect.
