Default to my wize audi friends

As i come back from nowhere to the forums. i wanna pick your brains

i have borla catback exaust for my 01 1.8t and i want to make it a bit louder. my dad and i dont wanna cut into and remove the resonator from a $700 exaust, so i was trhinking that i could get 2.25" stainless pipeing and go to an exaust shop to get it bent to the shape of the middle section with the resonator. thatway i can replace it when i want it louder and not destroy my exaust.

so do you think this would work or am i dreaming

keep the borla as is. just add a testpipe (ER is the best, or ATP if you want a bit cheaper). it will make the borla sound SOOOOO much better. it's the setup i had on my B5 and i loved it

If you dont have a testpipe, that right there will make it louder. I had my mid muffler removed and replaced with 2.5" straight piping and if i want to quiet it down all i do is put my mid muffler section back in and take out the straight section. I only paid $125 for them to do it so it gives you an idea.

I removed 1 out of the 2 resonators on my Borla exhaust setup... replacing the 1 resonator with a straight pipe made out of aluminum, it was welded on. Sounds AMAZING.

I was actually thinking of cutting out the resonator on my Milltek... and it's a 999 dollar exhaust, if iirc.
I've been sort of wanting a test pipe lately... just don't want to pollute. [:'(]
How do you go about avoiding CEL's with the TP?

lol, i think i said i dont want to cut it. either way, but ya, dun wanna cut it.

there are 2 resonators? isnt it just one and a muffler?

Trailboss - where did you have it maid? im gonna call borla and see if i can either get a straight through from them or get the angles to get it done at a shop

and for teh testpipe, my parents wont let me go non smog legal. while they pay for college, they tell me what to do...

Haha I'm hoping for some more exact methods of running a test pipe with no CEL...

For the OP though, I suggest you take your car to an exhaust shop, and ask them how much to remove your resonator (cut it out), and weld flanges to everything.
Flanges on either side of where the resonator used to be... flanges on either end of a piece of straight pipe (to replace the resonator) and then flanges on your resonator so you can add it back, if you want.
