Default Mystery Noise

I have an 04 A4 1.8t w/ an APR Stage 1 +.

Car suddenly has a high pitched sound that appears to be located near the rear left of the car. It almost sounds like a high pitched, high winding motor, or a high pressure leack. No noise from the engine bay. Also when I step on the gas the sound doesn't change. Other than an exhaust leak, what else could it be. Plan to bring it to a mechanic soon, but would like to have a better grip on the potential cause.

Thanks-
Bartlett

How long has it been doing this? Does it do it while idling or driving a consistent speed or slowing down?

does it do it just while driving? if so could be wheel bearing? one of my cars did that, wheel bearing went bad and it hummed/whined going down the road..

He says it doesn't change when he drives so that rules out the wheel bearing. I don't think the fuel pump changes as you hit the gas. It might be that on it's way out.

The sound is present when the car is at idle. The pitch changes slightly at 2300 to 2500 rpms, however otherwise the sound remains the same. When the radio is off and I'm at idle it sounds as though some one is using a leaf blower off in the distance.

Not knowing too much I would think that it is an exhaust leak, howeverthe sound really doesn't change that much with different amounts of throttle.

The sound just appeared when I turned my car on one morning following a 250 mile road trip.

Not too long ago while backing in to a parking spot, the exhaust clipped a wooden board. The car has been on a lift since and I didn't see anything in particular.

Thanks-

The mystery noise turend out to be a fuel pump.

W/ 60,000 miles on the car, would audi cover it?

Otherwise, I'm looking at approx $600 w/ parts and labor.

Please advise.

Thanks-

Bartlett
