Need help ASAP -- heat/exhaust related.....
I have a Borla exhaust on my 99 A4 and for some reason it has started to burn the asbestos up over the exhaust. Has anybody else experienced a problem like this? Solutions?[/align]
I know from alot of fart cans out there that have galsspack in them to make the noise, they soound good but the glasspack does burn off and then we get the fart noise. this could be the same conceptwith the borla but then again it is asbestos and of higher quality.
My issue is related to the actual heat shielding on the bottom of the body on the drivetrain tunnel on the right side near the flex point on the Borla. The aluminium remained, but the material beneath it turned to ash.
yea really wouldnt worry about it too much but maybe loosen up the exhaust and move it farther away or something, its possible that you got it too close when you installed it
It already basically caught fire -- LOL! All the material under the foil on the one sided is G-O-N-E!!! It smoldered for like 45 minutes and has left my car with a lovely campfire scent! Ummmm -- yummy! The pipe was about as well centered as it could be -- I just don't know what caused it. I think maybe the aluminum covering got bent back and directly exposed the material below -- why it burnt i still don't know!!!
Anyway, I found some good exhaust tape local and am going that route. Down the line I'll probably get a piece or two of the adhesive backed blocker as well and put that up where the original melted away.
Thanks for the help guys -- smoke billowing from under the hood seldom leaves warm fuzzies and I'm glad some of you had some good input!
