Need help! had the car for 2 days!!
So here is the deal, I bought a 2000 Audi A4 1.8T earlier this week. Last night, as i was coming home, upon staring the car, it was very rough, shaky, but that lasted about 30 seconds and then was fine the rest of my way home. At first i believed this to be a fuel injection problem, thinking it just needed a cleaning, but just a little while ago it did it again, and stayed rough. I immediately took it to my local auto parts store so they could hook the computer up to it and tell me whats wrong. It came back as a misfire in cylinder 1. After talking to the guy, he said that if it were a spark plug, it wouldn't be intermittent like that, so after removing the plastic cover, this is what we saw.

The clerk at the auto parts store said that that loose connection could most definitely cause the misfire. I need to know what part that is, so i can order it. Also i want to know would a misfire cause very light smoke coming from the back of the engine? Thanks in advance. And if there is any more info needed, let me know.

that is your coil connector, but not sure why that one is red and the others aren't, i would make sure it is tight or get a new coil.... as for the smoke, could be valve cover gasket or coolant flange... smoke is too vague
i usually just go to the dealer and say i need a price for something, and tell them "i need the ____ that connects to the coil for cyl 1 or whatever" they look it up tell you the exact name, tell you its $28,000 and youll be on your way to look it up on ebay
