i just got home n there i notice one of my lights were off. so i didn't think it was a big deal prob thought it might of been my fuse. but next thing u see smoke start coming out of my dash. can some 1 help me or did ne 1 have ne prob lyk dis? please post n help me thanks!

 

DO NOT DRIVE OR START UP YOUR CAR!!! Disconnect the battery immediately, until we can figure out what the problem is.. if its a short or something electrical its possible that it could still catch fire with the car shut off.. If you do go to disconnect the battery, try to find your radio code.. or be prepared to get it

im not saying its for sure that bad.. but its always better to be safe than sorry.. especially if you saw smoke.. now you say its your dashlights that arent working?

 

iight u kno how the dash will have radio or cd playing light, then temp, den mile or w/e well da radio n cd light weren't on n i was playin my cd so i was thinking mayb it might b a fuse or sumthing. so i just waited till i got home. i rolled up the window before i got home n i started smellin smoke so i was lyk wat is dat burnin. the moment i pulled up on my drive way i saw smoke inside my car so i was lyk shyt mayb from da engine. so i popped da hood open n saw nothing. i went back there were lil more smoke but it was pourin out cuz i had my door open. so i figure its coming from inside my dash n it prob b a burnt wire or something. so i let it vent out n after a while it wasn't as bad but still smokin. so im hopin its nothing big cuz i been spending money on this car way to much. and if u think its n easy job to fix please let me kno cuz i wanna fix it myself instead of going to people or worst of all....the dealership

 

Stock radio or after market?? what year is your car?

 

stock and its a 2000 audi a4 quatro

 

if smoke was coming from the radio area.. pull it out, and check all the wire connections back in there, make sure the wires dont look like they have been getting "too" hot.. and if the smoke was coming from the guages.. pull the guages out, and check behind there, basically just start ripping stuff apart.. little by little, and dont forget to check behind your climate control

In any case - smoke = electrical short = eventual fire if not fixed.
Some wires are bad, like the goat says - start ripping stuff apart til you find that bad melted wire.
