Need some opinions.
So, I'm looking at buying my first Audi, and I've found one that is the model I want (B5 A4) and is fairly cheap, but it has some downsides. I am getting impatient about buying one, because the itch for it is getting very bad, so I need some advice about this particular car. It is a 2001 1.8t Quattro and manual transmission with 150k miles. I went to look at the car, and it is in really good shape for the number of miles (I got no indication as to wether they were strictly highway or not). The engine looked very clean, it was very smooth when I drove it, no knocks or strange noises, and the clutch seemed to be in good shape also. It's being sold from a fairly shady looking dealer (it was a trade in to a larger dealer, who then sold it to these guys), which is my other concern. The asking price is $7,900, which is a little lower than the KBB suggested price, but still seems a little high to me. Should I keep looking (as in run away fast) or try to talk them down a lot, or what? Any advice would be great, as I am new to the Audi world.

the price is way too high for that mileage. 6k is more like it. i would suggest looking for a diff one because the turbo and timing belt most likely have to be changed when u buy that one. unless they were already done
I have a 2000 with 155k miles, and no big problems at this mileage, except the exhaust flexpipe broke recently. Plus the 2001, i think, has more hp. but that price seems steep coming from an independent garage.
If your thinking about getting an Audi i would go ahead and get the carfax report on the car. Make sure that it was serviced regularly otherwise your probably lookin to be in bad shape down the road and i would agree that those miles are way too rediculous for the price dont let the year fool you in the KBB 150k is a lot on any car. I got my 98' with 117k on it for only 6800 and it already had a the major 120k service tune up done which was a 1300 dollar procedure. And it was some old ladys lease commuter car but of course all the maintenence was done in very good time... Good Luck
Don't my company has a dealers liscence. They didn't get it from Grandma and Grandpa on a trade with a larger dealer. The larger dealer got the car, realized it wasn't worth fixin enough to sell, sold it at auction cheap i can pick up the 1.8 with over 150k miles for 3k so they are almost gonna triple their profit, and then are lookin 4 a sucker 2 believe their flagrant lie and buy a car nearing the end of its useful life unless meticulously maintained which i doubt they can prove and therefore i wouldn't pay .02 for that thing. Dealers are evil, always when possible go private and have vehicle checked out by a trustworthy mechanic. They have a detailer on staff so all their cars look mint to sucker people in. just my .02
I'd stay away unless the car fax comes up clean, they have all the service records and are willing to lower the price below 6k.
Go with a private seller with good records and have the car checked out by a very good mechanic or even an Audi dealer, I hear they'll inspect used cars for around $100.

Thanks, guys. I guess I'll be talking to the guy tomorrow to see if I can get a look see at the service records and get a major price rebate. I have been looking at another (private seller), but she hasn't called me back yet. Thanks again.
