Default New A4 owner.

Just purchased '01 A4 5spd.
92K miles. Spoke to local dealer who ran vin# and all dealer recommended service has been done with exception of the timing belt.

Already got the website for the kit that was posted here, great help.

Need floor mats. Like the Premium all weather mats. About $100 on the Audi web site/dealer. Does anyone know where you can get a better deal on these?
Any advice to a new owner?

This thing is a BLAST to drive!!

hey congrats and welcome!

I've seen some sets of floormats go for a little cheaper than dealer on Ebay.

So do you have any pics of your new ride?

Thanks
No pictures yet but I'll post some later.
Pretty much stock, but real clean.

Re: mats, saw some on e-bay too, limited selection.
Found a website who claims to have oem for less. I'm going to call,
if any luck I'll let you know.

Timing Belt - No doubt
Already spoke to my mechanic who can do it for me.
Owners manual says 105,000 (2.8), but I'm not comfortable waiting that long.

No luck on the mats, aftermarket only.
Looks like I'll have to suck it up and drop the $100 on OEM from the dealer.

Checked e-bay, no luck on the all weather mats.

Re: timing belt - found the kit for $265 that was posted on this forum.
Looked up labor time in a motors guides, says 3.5 hours.

Does that sound about right or is it more involved?
Am I pretty safe having a good mechanic do it vs the dealer?

Yep, any good mechanic with the proper tools (the crank tool is key) can do the job. Three hours is right for a skilled mechanic.

Note: When you get the car back from the mechanic, do NOT drive it hard for the first 50 or 60 miles. Drive it without the radio and listen to the engine. Take note of any sounds. If the mechanic screwed up, you'll hear it. If you do hear an odd sound - tapping or otherwise - don't drive it anymore except back to the mechanic. Take it back and demand that he reset the belt. If you drive it conservatively, little or no further damage will occur to the engine.
