Hello, I am new to this forum and new to Audi... I just bought a 2001 Audi A4 2.8 quattro. The car so far has been wonderful. I did alot of research on the car and there were mixed reviews, i know a person who has the same car and has had it for 7 years with over 100,000 miles and nothing major has happened. However some people have constant problems with the A4. I was just wondering if others have had any major problems and what i should expect for reliability. I will be driving this car distances alot, should it be ok for that? Also i dont have an Audi garage near me so i am going to take it to the VW garage bc essentially they are the same thing. Anyways i was just wondering if everyone else thought that the Audi A4 2.8 is a reliable car?? Thanks. Also what are some of the normal issues to expect? (hopefully none)

I have a '99 2.8 w/tip and i haven't had any "major" problems with mine. I think the key ingredient with any vehicle is to perform the necessary regular maintenance at the necessary intervals. Granted, this will not guarantee you that nothing will go wrong. I've had a problem or two with stuff breaking, but bear in mind it is a mechanical object with many moving parts so stuff does break, but it's not an indication that Audi is an inferior product. Sh*t happens.

Take care of the car that takes care ofyou and you'll find it to be very reliable. Enjoy, and again, welcome!

 

as a matter of fact. i have the same car with stick. i haven't had any problems with it except ma alternator died. but i mean ma car has 112k on it. so that's sumthing to think about when ur driving. also plugs, wires and new b4 cat converter 02 sensor will help wid gas mileage. otherwise ma engine and tranny are great as new. i drive like crazy in that car sumtimes and the throttle response is super. if u got any problems, this site has the answers

 

Follow the recomended maintainence.

Your 2.8 will be solid, especially for long road trips.
