new to audi
just sayin wuts up and that im gunna be buyin a 2001 audi a4 within the next 2 weeks. i already have the car lined up, its a 2001 audi a4 1.8L and it has a 5-spd tranny. the previous owner put a stage 2 turbo with a turbo chip, and the car runs on 93 octane, and has a cat-back exhaust. he said the stage 2 turbo is running 17lbs of boost and i was wondering if anyone knows is thats likely or not cause that number sounds a little high to me. and i was also wondering if most audi owners look down on BOV's cause i was really looking at putting one in. any info would help thanks.
"The Audi turbo system is a closed loop system by which all unused boost that is spooled during off throttle and gear shifts must be re-routed within the system; it cannot be vented to the atmosphere due to the dependence on the MAF and ECU to properly read and interpret air flow dynamics within the intake tract. Therefore BOV's (Blow-Off Valves) are not used because they create a rich air/fuel condition (i.e. less air to fuel ratio) which will damage the catalytic converter, create soot on the exhaust pipes, and cause occasional misfiring (due to the purged air) which will result in ECU miscalculated timing adjustments and other errors."

wow thanks for the info...so it seems like a bov is outta the picture. dose this include dump pips too? cause the kid that im buying the car from said i sould put a dump pipe to release the extra boost. and i still wanna know if 17 lbs ofboost sounds realistic.
audi uses a diverter valve... its identical to a blow off valve... you can get a blow off valve but you need to get the recirculating kit for which ever bov you get. i would recommend the greddy type s w/ the recirculating kit, it is still very loud and sounds very good/aggressive.
audi people try to crap out other audi owners on getting a bov... in reality a bov and dv are the same thing. there is a thread around here somewhere that finally proves my point that i have been trying to get across for almost 2 years now.

yeah im not buying the car i originally planned on buying cause the kid sold it the day before i could get the money to him. i found another audi though, its still an A4 1.8L and 5-spd, but its a '99. i havent seen the car in person yet but im probably going to look at it tommrow and possibly buying it on the spot. i looked at another audi a4 yesterday that had a bov in it, i decided not to buy the car just based on how the kid drove it within the first minute or so, he didnt let the car warm up, and was flooring it within seconds of leaving his house, so i could tell the car is likely to have some seriouse turbo problems in the future. i did really like the sound of the bov even though the car was running stock boost, so im still looking into a bov for the car, and thanks for the info, now i know to look for a resurculating bov, and i will look into the greddy one but i know greddy tends to be a more expensive company. and one last thing, is anyone on here going to Waterfest in englishtown next week?
yeah i know. the car was in mint condition. thats y i was on here a week before i was gunna get the car cause it was such a sick car i couldnt wait, but then the kid sold the car on me. but the good news is i bought a different audi last nite. its a 99 a4 1.8L 5-spd. blue outside and really light tan on the inside with blue carpets, it sounds weird but it looks really nice, and the car has only 58,000 mi. on it. i going to register the car in a little while and ill have pics on here soon. http://autos.yahoo.com/usedcars/deta...s9QXVkaSZtbz0m
thats the link to see the car from the dealership, but ill post my own pics as soon as i get my hands on a camera. (the best part, it was only $7000)
