Default new audi tips???

hey guys... just a few questions...

Starting point: i'm leaning strongly towards buying a used 2001 A4 1.8T... anything i should know about these cars before i buy???

Been test driving all kinds of different cars lately and nothing seems to be able to compare to them, well atleast thats the feeling i'm getting.

I'm hearing horror stories from some ppl around that the audi A4's seem to have a lot of electrical problems, but the thing is, none of these ppl actually drive one, i guess its all just rumors i hope... are they?

should i even bother looking at the 4cyl? or should i just go for the 2.8 6cly?

just confused and wanna make the best choice

thanks guys

cheers

Electrical problems??

Go with 1.8t if you want to mod the engine. Go with 2.8 if you want a bulletproof engine with little modding available (except a bigbuck SC).

STFA on this. This is a common question.

where the hell did all these electrical rumors come from?? everyone seems to think that audis have all kinds of electrical problems, but i rarely see any actual problems on the forums...except maybe for the cruise control switch...which is no big deal..

I haven't heard of the CC problem either.

What's the issue? How is it resolved?

heh, my cruise control switch is demo'd I think... ugh. I've heard about the issues with it, and would also like to know how it's resolved.

People are too effin stupid around here, to allow the use of my cruise control anyways... cant trust anybody to maintain a constant speed ahead of me. "Oh man, gradual bend coming up, everybody hold on!!!!!!!!!!11one" *hard on the brakes*...

*sigh*

headshok, i know how you feel, traffic here is pretty terrible...the cc issue is usually just the contacts at the switch from what i've seen...just remove the steering wheel, remove the whole switch assembly, spray and clean the contacts...and you should be good to go..

Remove the steering wheel? ... im out. haha, not sure I want to get into it... I drove about 500 miles this weekend, and can get the cruise to work... just takes like 2 or 3 tries, sometimes. Meh. will cope, for now.

headshok, some people have fixed it w/o removing the steering wheel. i'm pretty sure you can just pop off the steering column surround (which is just a couple screws) and spray electrical contact cleaner in there..but i don't think the steering wheel is a chore to remove..

flyboy, i remember helping you out with this problem a while back..did you have to remove your steering wheel?

cdnskier, the v6 is better if youre not modding, as it is faster than the 1.8T stock...but if you like to mod your car, def go with the 1.8T
