Default New cam belt / timing belt, how much?

I may need a new cam belt for my Audi A4 1.9TDI (90bhp 1995 model) and have been quote £600 (roughly $1,200) for parts and fitting which seems a little expensive to me.

Does anyone know if this is expensive or a normal price?

What should it normally cost?

Thanks

My cambelt change on a 1.8t was £250 inc cost of belt from my local specialist.

well lalaland. I live in Toronto, CANADA and I got my timing belt changed and waterpump from AUDI themselves for $1200 CANADIAN DOLLARS. I know i got ripped off by them, I think your also getting ripped. You can buy timing belt kits from ecstuning.com and other places as well. Ask a moderator of the forum they will be glad to help you out.

Make sure they are good with AUDI's before you go to them.

Funny thing happened tonight.

When I told the original garage how much everyone else was charging, they dropped their price to £200!!

Shocking........

holy ****, they dropped their price from 600 to 200?? i wouldn't take it to that shop even if they will do it for that. any shop that quotes 200% more, then drops the price, is SHADY. i can almost guarantee they'll try to rip you off a million other ways once they have your car. take it somewhere else, pleeaase. don't support shitty mechanics, it's bad for everyone.

Yeah i agree with BFLan. They will try to find other ways of charging you more. I honestly recommend taking it to a AUDI specialist or even AUDI themselves. Yeah they will charge you alot, but you know they wont do any shady work, well you can hope they dont cause they are a BIG company and wont take chances on messing up someone's car. Most of the time they cant mess up cause they have done it soo much, but there are always exceptions
