I'm sure this question has been asked time after time so I'm sure everyone has some good opinions. I am in the market right now for an 98-01 A4, however I'm not sure whether to get the 1.8Q or the 2.8Q. I'm looking for a 5 speed quattro, sporty, fast, reliable and fairly cheap to maintain. I've heard a few people say to go for the 1.8 quattro and add the computer chip. I'd like to get in the 200+hp range, without sacrificing too much. I am also wandering what to look for when looking for a used A4, other than the usual such as maintence records, timing belt changed, etc.. thanks

the 1.8 has potenial to supass the 2.8 easliy wit slight modding

 

1.8t + chip(don't forget the DV) will get your right around the 200hp mark.

Thanks for the help, I've decided on the 1.8t. I plan on upgrading the chip and aftermarket DV as well as some other fun mods.

 

an exhaust upgrade won't hurt either I would be looking more at 01 myself if all you want to do in a chip also they have the K03 sport that is 170hp instead of 150 for the 97-00 years and you can get a stronger chip for this year GIAC X Chip

 

as far as hp gain of the 01 model, would it be a better to go with a 98 for instance to save some money and go for a turbo swap with say a k04? What are the main differences between the 1996-2001 models, and would it be worth the extra money to go for a 01?

nice. that would be sick. Maybe get a s4 then put in a k04 upgrade. now thats a car.

 

i got a 2.8 and i love it. but there is less then nothing u can do to mod it though
