Default New guy new to audi

Hello all. New to the Audi world here. Just made an offer on a 1998 A4 quattro. 97,000 miles (1000 on newly rebuilt 4 cyl turbo engine and clutch). The timing belt had broken and that is why they rebuilt it. 3 problems were pointed out by seller. 1) cruise not working, 2) air bag light on, 3) sunroof switch tricky. A couple of other small issues, but nothing that are a big deal. 1 owner car (lady).

Welcome, you can probably reset the airbag light, replace the CC switch or fuse, and clean the contacts in the sunroof switch so it'll properly. Goodluck.

They are asking $8,900, they took $8,200. Deal is hinging on what I find out from their mechanic who did all the work on the car. I have done some searching here on the forum and found that cruise switches are problematic (lady said it works sometimes) and seat connectors may be the problem with the light. This car is for my daughter who has an '89 Ford Probe that finally died on her with 145,000 miles. She goes to school 700 miles from us in South Dakota so this should be a good winter car for her. Let's see if I can load some pictures.

$8200 isn't bad, especially considering theres only 1k on the new motor. you mighta gotten him down a bit lower. The sunroof switch is a very common problem. Most of the time you can just pop it off and clean the contacts. They have DIY articles on this all over the internet. If that doesn't work it most likely needs a new relay, which is like 40-50 bucks.

I talked to her mechanic today. The engine had new head, 1 new piston, rings, bearings, and all components at the front of the engine including water pump. He did an inspection before it went on sale. Only thing he recommended was to replace rear brake pads. He told me to com by his shop and look at his place. I didn't have time, but thanked him for the offer. As far as talking them down, my bank has a 3 day right to rescind on a home equity loan (it's the law) so the money won't be available for a few days. I gave her a down payment so the deal is made. I will be picking it up next week.
