New Spec Clutch
Finally after looking at my car on ramps for a month my new Spec Stage 1 clutch is installed. I did it all myself and took pics along the way and wrote up some notes for a DIY write up. The new clutch is awesome and although they sent me the wrong pilot bearing they were very helpful. I would recommend them to anyone interested in getting a new clutch. Lemme know if you guys think this forum needs a tranny removal and clutch replacement DIY write up.
Nah didnt opt for the lightweight flywheel. My old one was fine, my problem wasnt that the clutch plate wore out i think my throw-out bearing went out so no damage to stock flywheel. Johnny, i'm not sure what the proper break in procedure is. the instructions i had just said "break clutch in for 450 miles" so i'm guessing that just means dont drive it hard for 450 miles. Right now it's kinda jumpy so i have to rev it to a slightly higher rpm than with my stock clutch for a smooth take-off. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. And i'll try and get that DIY going for you guys.
I would be kind to the clutch for atleast 1k miles, it also depends what kind of driving you do, city driving is going to break in a clutch much faster then highway driving.. im not sure what you mean by jumpy but my spec clutch is by no means smooth on take off.. on of the reasons i dont like it.. mine as 40k on it or so i have been told. and i have glazed it once so far to a point where i could barly drive the car.. i will see if i can pull up any material on the spec clutches
How do you glaze it? just riding it too much? or giving it too much gas on take off? my driving is almost all city so it will be pretty quick. it feel like its already getting smoother and i only have 50 miles on it.
the stock clutch does not have any "grab" to it at all.... it actually is the softest stock clutch i have ever driven, and its really annoying.... the spec will seem more "jumpy" or a little less smooth coming from a stock a4 clutch... im gonna upgrade my clutch but cant decide on which one to go with.
