Newbie looking for advice
Hello. Pardon this question from a neophyte. I have been talking to seller about a one owner car. It is a 2003 Audi A4 3.0 Sedan 6-Speed quattro. There is still warranty time left on the car. Price is reasonable and within my budget. I would be trading in my 87 Carrera. Is there anything I should know about this year/model? Was it particularly good...or bad? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.
its the more reliable of the a4's but you wont be able to mod it much. how many miles does it have? at 80k your gona have to change the timing belt and it'll set you back roughly 700-800 bucks for the job.
Mileage is just over 21K. Not interested in mods at this time. Thanks for the info on the timing belt. Any other folks out there with any comments about this particular year/model and any idiosyncrasies it may have? Thank you.
should be a great car. if anything happens you have the warrenty. just take it for a test drive and turn the radio off and listen for any unusualy noises. turn the steering wheel from side to side. check for leaks. look over the motor. if it all checks out get it and enjory your new car. and welcome to the forums
It is a great car, but the electronics are significantly more complicated than your old car. Thus, there are going to be glitches along the way.
as with any used car, even one with this low mileage, run a Carfax check and take it to a mechanic that deals with Audi/VW and have him check the engine for codes and mechanical problems. Well worth the investment.

OK, before I get too far, I know this post is worthless without pics. I bought the 3 liter A4 six-speed mentioned at the head of this post. Thanks again for the pointers from this thread and the other threads that I perused prior to the decision. Car is quiet and tight with windows down. It was kind of funny though as the sales guy had trouble explaining the key programming (or I had trouble understanding it). They ended up taking the car back into the service bay and reprogramming the keys. The service writer said that the second key set had probably not been used for more than a year. Yeah, maybe. I'm working my way through the 18 volume (kidding) owner's manual. Anyhow, they delivered up the car with a full tank of gas and completely washed. I'll snap a couple of photos on Friday and post them that evening. Again, I appreciate the inputs and hope that this site will keep me glued to the laptop at night.
I bought the same car. Mine had 43k on it and was out of warranty though. Fun to drive. No issues here either. I'm not worried about mods either...have another vehicle that I wrench on plenty enough already. Enjoy the car...the ladies love the Audi's.
