Newbie questions: avg. annual maintenance cost
Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have tried the search function but haven't exactly found what I need. Nonetheless if this has been previously discussed, feel free to repoint me.
I am looking at buying a new 2006 A4 3.0 Convertible. I haven't entered serious negotiations yet. The dealer has mentioned that a "pre-purchased" 4-year service contract is available for $500. I am not sure if this is snake-oil or a god deal. What do services on these cars typically run, how frequent are they and what do they? At the price the dealer quoted me, I hardly imagine anything more than oil changes and tire rotations. (As an aside, and not to throw flame bait on my first post
, but I do like BMW's all-inclusive maintenance offer that comes with their cars)
Also, the exact car I am looking for would have to be shipped from SoCal to NorCal, and the dealer has mentioned that he would pass the $500 shipping cost along to me. Since I haven't gotten down to the nitty-gritty numbers yet, I just decided to let him talk. I am however wondering whether this pactice is common. On the one hand, yes shipping isn't free, but on the other hand I imagine that the dealers have some sort of "trade credit" system among themselves, particularly in the same sales region.
Thoughts would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the dealer is trying to rip you off.
1. The car comes with a manufacturers 4 year 50K mile warranty. There should be no charge for that. Audi used to come with free service for that time too. Check Auid USA site to see if the free sercie is still included. I'd pass on the "service".
Find another Audi dealer who has the car you want or will get one from another dealer for no charge.

From Audi USA site>
Below is included in car at no additional charge
Owner Protection Program*
*
4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, new vehicle limited warranty
12-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation
Audi AdvantageSM
*
4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, no-charge scheduled maintenance
Audi 24-hour Roadside Assistance for 4 years*
Sounds like the dealer/salesman is trying some "agressive sales pricing" otherwise lying to the customer. I'd go elsewhere, or go back with your own agressive pricing policy. Find NADA price guide and find the "loan price", which is closer to dealer cost. It is september and they should be pricing the 2006 agressively. As a matter of fact, you may want to wait a month until the 2007 come out. That way you will have a current model for a year, not a year old model in a month.
