Default Newbie Upgrades

Hi all,

I have done the usual search stuff on this and have managed to come up with more information than I can process. I have recently purchased a '01 A4 1.8T and would like to make it a bit faster. here is what i as contemplating, please let me know if it seems reasonable.

1. GIAC motor chip

2. GIAC tiptronic chip

3. Eibachs to lower it a bit

4. Stiffer rear anti sway bar

I would also like to change wheels to something a bit bigger. I want the car to look pretty much stock, so does the above list sound sane? Please let me know if there are other things I should be considering. All input most gratefully accepted.

NM

Before you make it faster, make sure you make it better.

Unless you have all the maintenance records, plan on swapping out ALL the fluids (steering, brake, transmission, differentials, antifreeze). Mobil 1, air filter, fuel filter, fresh plugs. Tires OK and aligned

Make sure brakes are OK.

Once all that is done, you are ready for some speed. I'd suggest upgrading the BPV to a 710N, in addition to what you have listed.

If you are looking for a stock look with bigger wheels, consider the RS4 replica wheels.

thanks guys,

The fluids have all been replaced and the service records are pretty good. Most service was done a by a local independent Audi specialist and the car is in great shape, including the brakes.

Thanks for the tip on the BPV.

Those replica wheels look great and are just what I had in mind. Any clue where I could find them?

Thanks

Check out eBay. The dealer is going to want an arm and a leg I'm sure.

BTW that list is sane if you got the cash though I would replace the struts instead of the roll bar

I bought mine at hartmannwheels.com I bought a combo package... yoko es100 tires and the 17" wheels for 1200 bucks shipped. They even came with factory lug nut caps.

You can also pick them up at Achtuning.com, but their service blows.

Hi Guys,

hanks for even more helpful information, I will chase down the wheels. With regard to swapping struts as opposed to changing the sway bar, anyone care to recommend a suitable replacement that will be good for aggressive street driving.
I would like to keep some degree of road comfort but also have better support in cornering.
