News from the repair shop
Posted a topic couple days back about my a4 not starting and not cranking at all.
Towed it up today and the guys looked at it and said it was the timing belt. Now when i bought the car 3 months ago at 84k the prev owner said it was done at 80k. The mechanic estimated me 945 for the job including some other stuff and 2200 if the valves were bent.
Im extremely pissed off, because the prev owner forgot to mention the warranty expired 3 weeks from when he signed over the car and now that this has happened.
What can I do? I have no money for this repair, just lost my job and have no car to drive. I mean seriously, if the car can go 80000 miles on a timing belt, why 6000 miles into a brand new one is it shot to hell?
There was no previous mechanical issues and the car drove perfect for 3 months.
Help...................

i would take it to a couple other shops to see what they say.
if they confirm the timing belt and it hasn't been recplaced then i would call out the previous owner on that and work out a deal with him. thats about all you can really do.

Find out if the timing belt was truly changed at 80K miles. My suspicion is that it was not.
If the belt is OEM, check with Audi of America. I believe they have been covering some engine damage due to premature failure of the belt system.
Strange that the car would not crank.
To whom did you have your car towed. Is this reliable mechanic that you have worked with before?

I don't see any recourse with going back to the previous owner about this, plain and simple truth is he lied to you or whoever did the timing belt did it wrong- maybe did't replace the tensioner. I would confront him about it and ifhe just blows you off then I would have it arranged to have him beaten, it'll make you feel a little better.
yea unless you have a receipt or a document in your hand you can assume that he's lying. can't be a "niceguy" (excuse the pun)and take people for their words EVER if you don't know them and especially when buying a car. in any event, good luck with the remaining procedures i feel for ya.
Did he do a timing belt service or just replace the timing belt? It's a good idea to replace everything that belt rolls over, including the water pump, tensioner, and such as many belt failures are attributed to seizure of one of the driven components rather than the belt simply breaking.
