Nice to meet you & Cracked Oil pan on '98
Hi there,
I was going to search, but I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself, too.
Hi, I'm Karen. I'm a regular Porsche rennlist member, but I'm over here because my daughter cracked the oil pan on her car and I need some info on the R&R. How much of the car needs to be removed to perform the operation.
One of the rennlisters gave me a diagram that describes removal of shield and sending units, loosen and drop anti-roll bar. Is that it?
Do you know if her car is going to have a molder gasket or liquid gasket?
Thanks in advance & nice to meet you.
Add'tl info: I think her car is a 2.8.

This is funny!
I looked at the diagram. Icame to the Audi board and posted my query. I talked to my mechanic and discussed my findings - then discussed possible game plans.
My daughter lives in Eugene, 1.5 hrs. away, so I don't have the car here to look at myself. Her husband left two weeks ago for the Army @ Fort Jackson, SC, so it's just her and her toddler. I've been working on helping her out from a distance.
I swear that girl is a chip off the old (engine) block! When I called her tonight, she said that she had located the bottlecap sized hole and was removing & replacing the pan herself!
It took me back to the time when my own children were small. I was a "band wife". My husband was playing a gig in Klamath Falls and I did not want to spend another weekend at home with small children while he was on the road. My car, a Datsun B210, had a blown head gasket, so I changed that sucker out in front of the house, fed and jammied the kids, packed them in the car and was in K Falls by one in the morning! Oh the early days.....though pennyless, my energy knew no bounds.
Anyway, I told her to hold off until Monday if she wanted. We may be able to clean it up and epoxy it - a lot less $$$.

I have pulled my pan 3 times this weeks o seal a small leak. All she has to do is remove the shield, remove the 4 -13mm bolts for the swaybar and let it swing out of the way, then remove the 10mm bolts for the pan. I took me 15 minutes to get mine off, with air tools though.
wow she must have rly been angry at her audi or sumthing to put a bottlecap size hole in the oil pan hahaha. well i put a tiny crack in mine, took it out, took it to a shop, welded it, put it back on with sum of the special "audi" gasket stuff. ma cars been fine

I used some of that black windshield glue which was recommended by another user and it worked well.
