Nice quiet exhaust? Which one?
Short story: My 2001 dodge intrepid threw a rod @ 70k and dodge wont do **** about it. My other car is an 10.8sec turbo honda hatch. So, i sold my hatch, put 10k down on a 2001 a4 1.8t w/ 20k and now im going to try to merge my daily driver and my fun car into one. Ive been reading on the board for a few days and ive answered most of my questions as far as what i plan to do, except this one. Who makes a good quiet exhaust? A little louder than stock is fine, but my honda was a straight 3in no cat w/ a 3in apexi muffler, and i really dont want a luxury car to sound real loud. So, which exhaust? I was leaning toward the neuspeed b/c of the dp/catback combo.

You are right on with your Neuspeed choice. Neuspeed probably makes the quietest aftermarket exhaust out there. It's not quieter than stock by any means - it still has a nice throaty sound, but it is mellow.

Supersprint also makes a quiet exhaust.

Milltek has a great reputation in Europe. I heard a Milltek on a 2000 A4 1.8T, and it sounded great. Not too loud, and it looked great. However, I think they're very expensive compared to other alternatives.

K jackass, theres a reason i put SHORT story. The dodge/mitsu 2.7 has a serious design flaw. Since may of 2003 over 1100 have done the same thing and Dodge wont admit theres a problem. Dodge will also not sell just the block. A rebuilt jasper motor comes w/ a 15,000mi warranty, is 5k, AND is on a 1 month backorder b/c they are blowing up so rapidly. No junkyard will give any warranty and there motors are 3k. Since the piston smaked into the valves and came out the head and the rod went thru the bottom of the block, its a little more than just the rod being replaced. Basically like i told my area's district manager, the average man in my family lives to be about 95, nobody and nobody i speak to in the next 70 years will buy a dodge product. I hate dodge and why put 5-6k into a car that worth about 9k. And as far as an idiot, im not the one dumb enough to try to turn a luxury car into a 1/4 mi car (i do it w/ economy cars :-). The a4 is just my new daily driver that i want to be kinda fun. Next spring im going to build a k24 crx for a drag car. Nothing like a street legal 11sec n/a 4cyl.
